The Four Biblical Models of Sonship

Sep 23, 2026  •  Apostle Patrick J. Brown

n this teaching, Pastor Patrick explores four biblical models of sonship—Nepios, Paidion, Teknon, and Huios—as a framework for understanding spiritual growth, identity, and maturity in Christ.

The journey begins with Nepios, the spiritual infant who has received life but still requires nurture, instruction, and formation. Paidion represents the young child learning trust, humility, obedience, rhythm, and the basic practices of life in the Father’s house. Teknon emphasizes relational belonging—the believer who knows they are truly a child of God but is still growing in stability, identity, and maturity. Huios points to mature sonship: a believer increasingly led by the Spirit, bearing the Father’s character, and carrying responsibility with wisdom and faithfulness.

The central message is that sonship is received by grace, but maturity is formed through discipleship. God does not simply call us His children and leave us unchanged. Through the Holy Spirit, Scripture, obedience, prayer, discipline, and life in the Body of Christ, He forms us to increasingly resemble the Son and represent the Father.

This teaching challenges believers not to measure maturity merely by how long they have been in church, how much they know, or how gifted they are, but by a deeper question:

What has Christ actually formed in me?

The movement is simple but profound:

Nepios receives life.

Paidion learns the house.

Teknon knows belonging.

Huios carries the Father’s heart.

The goal is not spiritual status or superiority. It is mature resemblance—becoming sons and daughters who know the Father, follow the Son, are led by the Spirit, and increasingly reveal the character of God in the world.
