Drawing From God's Water Source

We are reminded that even when we find ourselves in a dry place, God remains our Source. describes two pictures of spiritual dryness. The first resembles a hot desert—exhausting, arid, rocky, and without rainfall. Conditions seem unfavorable for growth. Pressure compounds, we find ourselves stumbling over the same things, and the seeds we have faithfully sown appear not to be growing.

The second resembles the cold, arid air of the mountains. Water is scarce, the air is thin, and moisture evaporates quickly. Spiritually, these can be seasons when frustration increases and the promises of God become harder to remember. But dry does not mean abandoned. God’s nourishment must reach us at the root level. The deepest places of our lives must become saturated by His Word, His Spirit, His presence, and His truth.

God promises to guide continually, satisfy us in dry places, and make us like a watered garden and a spring whose waters do not fail. And Jesus declares that from the one who believes in Him will flow rivers of living water. There is a difference between occasionally receiving water and becoming spiritually saturated. When the roots reach the Source, dryness does not have the final word.

The vision may seem delayed, the environment may appear unfavorable, and the season may feel longer than expected—but God has not forgotten His promise. There is an appointed time. There is refreshing in due season.
